Getting ready to renew your home or car insurance
Your insurance is up for renewal. You might have questions about your rate or the renewal process. We’re here to help make sure your coverage still meets your needs, so you get the right protection at the right price.
How renewal works
1. You get your renewal documents
We let you know when you’re up for renewal about 60 days in advance. Depending on your communication preferences, you get notified either by mail or email.
Your renewal documents are available through Online Services if you’re Paper-Free (OneFile). You can also consult renewals from previous years.
2. You review the information
Your renewal documents have a lot of important information, including:
- Your new premium
- Your coverages
- Who’s insured
- Your discounts and savings
It’s a contract, so make sure to write down any questions you have and changes you’d like to make.
3. You decide what’s next
No changes or questions?
If you use pre-authorized payments, no need to do anything else. Your policy renews on the date specified in your policy document.
If you pay by cheque, you must pay in full before the specified renewal date.

Ways you could save on your home or auto insurance
Here are some tips to help you get the coverage you need and the best value for your money.
Keep your insurance up to date
Let us know if you start driving less, put your vehicle in storage, get rid of your wood-burning stove or install a new roof. You could see your premium go down!
Bundle your home and auto insurance
Insuring both your home and car with us can get you a lower rate and make your insurance easier to manage.
Know what coverage you need…
And what coverage you don’t! Keep the age and use of your vehicle in mind as you choose your insurance. We’re happy to discuss your options and make sure your needs are covered.
Consider increasing your deductible
A deductible is how much you pay out of pocket if losses occur. With a higher deductible, your premium could go down. If you don’t make any claims, you won’t have to pay the deductible. Consider how much you are willing to pay in the event of a claim before increasing your deductible.

Frequently asked renewal questions
How long does it take to renew my insurance?
We start sending out renewal notices about 2 months before policies are set to expire. It’s a good idea to set aside some time to read over your renewal documents. If you don’t have questions or changes to make, you’re all done! Arrange for payment, and your insurance renews on the date indicated in your documents. For changes or questions, you can write or call us.
Can I cancel my insurance after renewal?
Yes, you can cancel your insurance at any time. However, you may need to pay a cancellation fee depending on the date you request. To learn more, see Cancelling car or home insurance.
My home and car insurance renew on the same date, but I’ve only received one document. Is this normal?
Yes. Sometimes your home and auto renewal documents don’t arrive on the same day, even though the renewal dates are the same. Expect your second set of documents soon after the first.
